Bedroom Wall Murals Bring The Outdoors Inside

 

Wall murals Part 1! I had too many great examples to share, so I thought it best to split them into two manageable blog posts. Here's the first. 

Wall murals are usually created in one of two ways: painted by hand, or applied as pre-printed designs in wallpaper-like sections. I'm not going to bother with the ins and outs of each option; today is just about looking at styles. If you were going to add a bedroom wall mural to your home, which style would you prefer? Check out these creative ideas:

Large florals in a tropical design, combined with dark-wood antique furniture, give off vintage vibes.

Full moon mystique

White and bright tropicals are airy and light

A vintage nautical scene for a more masculine vibe

Dreamy and romantic fantasy- note the use of string lights mounted over the mural

A more colorful beach scene incorporates blue and purple

A green forest theme brings the outdoors inside

For the skier or cold-weather enthusiast

Upcycled Farmhouse Wall Decor: Vintage China & Silver Spoons Sculpture

I can't believe how quickly 2018 has flown by. It seemed like we were just getting out our beach umbrellas and now I've got a pumpkin on my porch!  Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the winter holidays are close behind. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I had to share my new vintage wall art sculpture that I made from repurposed and salvaged vintage silver spoons and an old, unusual Statue of Liberty china platter. 

These actually started out as displays for a museum show that I was a part of (I made two of them, the one pictured here and also a smaller version) and I loved how they turned out so much one went right up on my wall. The one photographed here is now listed in my Etsy shop. It has such a cool and unique look to it, and is perfect for dining room or kitchen (though it could be hung anywhere). It has such vintage charm that I think it would look great in vintage farmhouse decor or eclectic decor. Perfect for the vintage and antique lover! 

I hung mine between two old silver trays in my dining room. Check it out!

DIY Stenciled Nature Wall Art on Canvas

Creating your own wall art can be simple! 

All you need are a few basic materials and a little bit of inspiration. 

Now that summer is in all its glory, why not take to the great outdoors for some of the materials needed for this project? 

You probably can find plenty of leaf and flower specimens in your very own backyard or garden. 

Or, take a nature walk with someone special and collect some leaves or other natural materials on your way. Once your project below is finished, you'll have a nice keepsake to remember the day!

Materials needed: (photo 1)

newspaper to cover and protect your work space

a store bought framed canvas for acrylic paint

acrylic craft paint

craft paint brush

repositional spray adhesive (aka artist's mounting adhesive)

spray paint in a contrasting color to your acrylic paint 


Instructions:

First, cover your work space with newspaper. 
To start, paint your entire canvas with acrylic paint in the color that you would like your leaves to be and set aside to dry (photo 2)

Once your canvas is dry, place your leaves or branch (or whatever you will be using as your stencil) on a separate piece of paper or newspaper and spray with mounting spray/respositional spray adhesive. (photo 3)

Next adhere the adhesive side of your leaves to your painted canvas and press down gently to adhere.

Spray over leaves with contrasting color spray paint, allow to dry, and then carefully peel off your leaves/stencil. (photo 4)

Display your finished artwork! (photo 5)
