My 4 Favorite Things For Today - Monday March 6th

It's kind of hard to think of four favorite things first thing in the morning on a Monday morning after staying up too late the night before but here goes... :D

1. Hot chocolate. I gave up sugar for the past two weeks  - not completely, but I cut back about 85 percent because I felt like I was overdoing it lately. I love sweets so that was a tough one for me, but I needed to stop and kind of reel things in a bit to gain some perspective on how much sugar I was consuming.

I don't drink soda or juice but I do use sugar in my coffee and tea - both of which I drink a lot!

I believe in all things in moderation, and I guess it was time to moderate how much sugar I was eating or drinking. That being said, my big splurge for the weekend was real hot chocolate that I made with 1 % milk and of course lots of marshmallows. It was amazing. :)

2. The elephant necklace with gemstone beads. I made and sold one of these over Christmas, so I thought I would make another one. I just love the colors of these stones (left to right Prehnite, Ruby Jade, Garnet, Iolite, Larimar, and Fluorite). I just love Iolite!

I wrapped them in silver wire and then hung them from a leather cord. This type of jewelry making (beading/wire wrapping) is a nice change from the china jewelry that I make all the time. Sometimes my hands and mind have to do something new for the sake of variety and creativity.

3. Making homemade Chicken Marsala. This week I made homemade Chicken Marsala for the first time ever for my girls and it was awesome! I even slow roasted bulbs of fresh garlic to make garlic mashed potatoes as an accompaniment. All I can say is it was divine.

I used this recipe from Epicurious (still my favorite place to find amazing recipes) and tweaked it to taste as I cooked, making double the sauce. If you ever cook anything from Epi make sure that you read all the reviews first before you start. I've found lots of great advice in the reviews and comments.

I used this recipe as a guide for making the mashed potatoes but I used regular potatoes, extra garlic, and half and half instead of the heavy cream. They were amazing.

4. Trying my hand at watercolor painting. Here's the first ever face/eye that I painted, and I think it turned out pretty good. At least it did until I started over-painting it! I am learning.

I like doing small drawings for fun and painting those, and I've found that I really like painting faces. It's interesting to see how when you paint a face, a personality starts to emerge. It's kind of mysterious!

If there is anything in particular that you'd like to see just leave me a comment!

I hope you have a great week!

My 4 Favorite Things For Today... Thursday November 19th 2015

My 4 favorite things for today...

1. This pressed red glass heart window ornament. I have a small collection of these pressed glass ornaments; a green frog, a cobalt lighthouse, and a purple rabbit are a few of the others.

2. This mosaic birds nest bowl that I made a few years ago is one of my favorite things. It's made from antique china, and has a little bird salt shaker perched on the rim. I love the way it turned out with the nutmeg colored grout.

3. This quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.
"Be silly.
Be honest.
Be kind."
I wish more people would be more silly, more honest, and more kind.

4. This Chai tea! Celestial Teahouse Decaf Mountain Chai.  I just tried this for the first time and I really like it. It's yum!

Enjoy your day!

My 5 Favorite Things For Today... My Morning Hike

My 5 favorite things for today...

1. My 5 favorite things for today are from my morning hike. One of my favorite things about living in Pennsylvania are our beautiful forests and hiking trails. It's hard to tell from this photo, but those boulders are massive!

2. This leaf-strewn path, and my favorite water bottle. These trails are much prettier in the summer, but still a serene and peaceful hike no matter the season.

3. This is the rock where we stop and sit every time we hike this trail.

4. This morning on my hike we came across this pyramid-shaped rock art sculpture that someone had built. It's a bit hard to see in the photo, but it was really neat. The center of it was open. We also came across two young white tail deer on my way back down the mountain.

5. "Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky" is a quote from Khalil Gibran.

Enjoy your day!

My 5 Favorite Things For Today...

My 5 favorite things for today...

1. I came across this photo last night...it's from when I had my book signing event for Boho Chic Jewelry at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem, PA. At the time, I was a resident artist there, and was also featured artist for that month. These are two of my good friends  who came to celebrate with me. This is a nice memory!

2. Yesterday my daughter Erica got her first marking period report card and got all A's and made Principal's Honor Roll (she's in 8th grade), which is the highest honor. She worked so hard and I am so proud of her. Hard work pays off!

3. This quote: "Do all things with kindness". It doesn't get any simpler than that. Treat others with kindness. Do all things with kindness.

4. Sam sleeping on the keyboard. It's one of his favorite spots to nap.

5. These are a few projects that I am currently playing around with just for fun. Beads and wire and solder. I love the colors of these beads!

My 5 Favorite Things For Today...Friday November 13, 2015

My 5 favorite things for today...

1. Vanilla Chai decaf tea from Stash Tea in THIS mug. Add one tablespoon of honey and a splash of lowfat milk and I'm a happy girl. I love the mug. I found it at Kohl's.

2. Sara when she lays around like this and watches me. Oh Sara, you look so bored!

3. My fireplace mantle in my music/family room. This is a collection of a few of my favorite things; the ceramic reindeer bust, my thrift store Buddha collection, the tall candle jar that was a gift from my late brother, and the twig and branch peace sign wreath that I made a few years ago. I love the way it looks with the white lights. Want to make your own? Check out the tutorial here!

4. This quote: "Don't ruin a good today because of a bad yesterday" reminds us that each new day is separate from the previous one, and that we should not carry the previous day's troubles into the next day but instead try to leave them in the past. I've been going through a hard time lately, and so I am holding on with both hands to any advice like this.

5. This photo of leaves in our front yard that my daughter Erica took on her way to school one morning. The colors are perfect.
