Time Lapse Mandala Artwork - Ink Drawing With Watercolor Painting

I've been playing around with creating time lapse videos, tooling around with the time lapse feature on my iphone... but quickly found out that the built in time lapse feature is just too fast for capturing artwork! 

I thought I would try it out while creating this doodle - a quick pencil sketch to get my design started, and then some pen and paper drawing, topped off with a little bit of color added with water and watercolor paints.  

You can see it all below in about 26 blazing seconds haha! ...but I was unhappy with the video's rhythm of my drawing, which turned out to be just too fast for you to really see what I was doing. (watch it here on my YouTube Channel instead)

Regardless, I uploaded the video to my YouTube channel and then tried to toy with the video's settings, slowing it down 2x and then 4x but I soon found out that that didn't work because when a time lapse video is filmed, there are sections of time that are actually skipped. If you try to slow down a video that you filmed in time lapse mode on your iphone, the result is actually a trippy, smeared video! 

My resolution? I just downloaded an app that allows you to choose your video recording speed, so back to the drawing board - literally. When I get some free time I will give it another shot using the app and hopefully have some better results!

How To Cut A China Plate With A Manual Glass Cutter - Video!

Hi Friends! I'm excited to say that I finally added a new video to my YouTube channel (if you're not a subscriber, be sure to click here to subscribe and be notified whenever I create a new video tutorial) ~ it was kind of an impromptu filming, I thought I'd show those who are interested how to cut a china pottery plate with a manual glass cutter. (click here to watch!)

This is a great method to learn if you want to cut your own pieces for broken china jewelry or to cut china mosaic tiles. 

I think this video turned out really well because...

 #1, you can really hear the tearing sound when I cut the plate (that is a sound that you want to hear because it lets you know that the cutter is correctly scoring the plate) 

and

 #2, it is a great example of what its like to cut a ceramic pottery plate because unlike porcelain or bone china, pottery is a lot more crumbly - as you will see in the video! 

Next I will have to make a video showing what it's like to cut a porcelain plate because the materials are very much different. 

I think it's really important to learn how to use traditional hand tools. Maybe you want to cut your own plates up for scrap but don't have an electric glass saw - this is a great way to get started. This is how I learned - by teaching myself - way back when I started years ago. 

Now, please keep in mind you won't get precision shapes with this method, but knowing how to cut plates by hand can save lots of wear and tear on your saw blades. I hope you enjoy the video.

Exciting Announcement: I Just Filmed Two New Jewelry Instruction Videos!

I love spreading good news. And boy, do I have some good news! 

Late last evening I returned home to Pennsylvania after flying out to Colorado to film
 two brand new jewelry instruction videos at the film studios at F+W Media, Inc., my 
fabulous publisher! It was a whirlwind three days! Yup, I flew about 3,166.4 miles to
 film two videos, just for you!  I traveled on a Monday, filmed two videos on Tuesday, and
 traveled home Wednesday. Four flights across the United States, four different airports, 
 three days later, and it's all done! 

Colorado is a beautiful place, and the landscape is quite different from what I am used 
to in Pennsylvania, so it was a new experience for me in many different ways. This was
 also my first time on camera...I wasn't very nervous, it was more like I didn't know exactly what to expect, exactly what it would be like. Kind of like when you're going to have a baby.
 You can read and prepare all you want, but until it actually happens, you don't know exactly
how it's going to be until you experience it for real, right as it's happening!
    

Live on the set!

I will write more about the videos in a future blog post, but I will tell you now that the first 
video teaches you how to make an awesome broken china jewelry necklace, and the second 
video teaches you my new technique for combining wire with soft solder to create a beautiful
 and amazing jewelry effect! If you love to make jewelry, or always wanted to learn how to
