DIY Christmas Decor Upcycled Window with Pine Cones & Greenery

from Jennifer Decorates via pinterest

Here's another great idea for a DIY Christmas decor project that combines three of my favorite things: an old window, pine tree branches and pine cones.

You can quickly and easily make one just like this - whether you use an old window or not is up to you - by fanning out a few pine tree branches (longest ones in center and shorter ones on the sides,) connecting them at the top with some green or brown florist's wire, and then adding some pine cones with wire (or use hot glue if you prefer.)

Add a nice big bow in whatever color you choose and then add a wire for hanging and that's all there is to it. I love how the brown ribbon coordinates perfectly with the colors of the pine cones and accentuates the organic look and feel.

Vintage Armoire Turned Secret Hidden Doors

A while back I did one of my upcycled and repurposed furniture blog posts entitled, The Upcycled Armoire, where I shared some very cool examples of vintage armoires that were not only refurbished, but they were also transformed to be used differently from their original purpose in the home. If you haven't seen the article, be sure to check it out (pinnable link below) for some instant inspiration!

I just came across this vintage repurposed armoire and I had to share it with you. If you're not exactly clear on what an armoire is, it is a piece of furniture similar to a closet, that is used to store clothing. Armoires, or wardrobes as they are also known, were popular in old timey days due to the lack of closets in homes. You can still buy armoires, but if you are a teaquer as I am, you already know that they are often found at thrift shops, antique malls, and in some of the nicer flea markets. So why buy new when you can buy a vintage one and transform it with your DIY skills, right? Right.

Obviously the one pictured above has been truly repurposed, gutted for whatever reason (hopefully due to damage and not just for fun), and turned into doors for a hidden room. The mirrors are an added bonus since they add depth to the room. This old armoire is certainly one of the old hulkingly giant ones, as it covers an entire doorway.  Reminiscent of  C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, this armoire turned secret, hidden door transformation is one that is both charming and clever.

Upcycled Farmhouse Wall Decor: Vintage China & Silver Spoons Sculpture

Sculpture by Laura Beth Love of Dishfunctional Designs

I can't believe how quickly 2018 has flown by. It seemed like we were just getting out our beach umbrellas and now I've got a pumpkin on my porch!  Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the winter holidays are close behind. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I had to share my new vintage wall art sculpture that I made from repurposed and salvaged vintage silver spoons and an old, unusual Statue of Liberty china platter.

These actually started out as displays for a museum show that I was a part of (I made two of them, the one pictured here and also a smaller version) and I loved how they turned out so much one went right up on my wall. The one photographed here is now listed in my Etsy shop. It has such a cool and unique look to it, and is perfect for dining room or kitchen (though it could be hung anywhere). It has such vintage charm that I think it would look great in vintage farmhouse decor or eclectic decor. Perfect for the vintage and antique lover!

I hung mine between two old silver trays in my dining room. Check it out!

Upcycled Ironing Boards: New Uses For Old Ironing Boards

Ironing board jewelry hanger made with old wooden thread spools by erinplainandsimple

I believe that you can upcycle just about anything, giving it new life and increased value. I also believe that incorporating these upcycled items into your home can be a really cool and inexpensive way to add interesting style to your home.

One household item that is fading fast from homes is the ironing board. I see one at just about every thrift store I visit. But did you know that you can use old ironing boards in really creative ways to accent your home?

Check out these innovative ideas for upcycling ironing boards!

DIY Ironing Board Plant Hanger Project
You will need:
A small metal ironing board
Spray paint
Wire and wire cutters
Old glass bottles or old glass vases
Optional: Magnets and E6000 adhesive

1. Remove ironing board cover and prepare surface to be spray painted by removing all sticky labels and dirt with a damp cloth. Dry.
2. In a well ventilated area or outdoors, spray paint the metal ironing board whatever color you desire. I love a bright pop of turquoise, red, or purple. Allow to dry completely, overnight is best.
3. Use long lengths of wire to wrap the necks of the bottles and vases, wrapping the wire around the neck three or four times until it is very secure. Next thread the wire through the holes in the ironing board to the back side of the board and then back through another hole back to the front of the board, securing the bottle tightly to the board. Do this a few times until the bottle is securely wired to the board. Wrap the tail end of wire around the neck of the vase.
4. Alternately, use strong magnets to attach your bottles to the ironing board by first checking that the magnets will stick to the board. Then use strong adhesive such as E6000 to adhere the magnets to the bottles or vases. Allow adhesive to dry over night.

Smaller sized ironing boards are great for jewelry storage. This one was left unpainted.

Upcycled Potholder Rug Adds A Bright Pop To Your Kitchen

I just love this upcycled potholder rug!

Jessica Wilson used old potholders to create this one of a kind rug. What a creative, colorful way to add an awesome touch of handmade to your home!

I always seem to have extra potholders stuffing up the back of one of my kitchen drawers, since I always seem to use the same two on a day to day basis. I think this is a really fun way to use old ones. This also would be a fun sewing project to do with your kids.

Be sure to check out Jessica's full tutorial over at Make:Craft!
